Instructions on How to Become a Member of Urhobo Historical Society

  1. Urhobo Historical Society (UHS) is a non-political organization of the Urhobo people. Its core mission is Serving Urhobo History and Culture.
  2. Since its founding in August 1999, Urhobo Historical Society has relied on the efforts and contributions of its members and other supporters to conduct its activities. The Society’s obligations and responsibilities have grown considerably, especially with the opening and staffing of its new Headquarters at Okpara Inland.
  3. Accordingly, the Editorial and Management Committee (EMC), the governing body of UHS, has established a following categories of Membership of the Society:
  4. Regular Member. A regular (general) member of UHS shall pay a membership fee of N12,000.00 per year, which may also be paid in installments of N1,000.00 per month.
  5. Student Member. Students, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and Youth Corps Service members, may join UHS as student members. A student member shall pay a membership fee of N2,400 a year, which may be paid in installments of N200 per month.
  6. Premium Member. A premium member shall pay a membership fee of N60,000 a year, which may be paid in installments of N5,000 per month.
  7. Gold Member. A Gold Member shall have the right and opportunity to aspire to become a member of the Editorial & Management Committee (EMC), Board of Trustees of UHS Endowment Fund, Patron and Fellow of UHS. A Gold Member shall pay a membership fee of N120,000 a year.
  8. Life Member. A life member shall pay one-time membership fee of at N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira). A life member is entitled to all benefits of a regular, premium, and gold members, for the entirety of the member’s life.  While life members would not be required to pay membership dues annually, they can make voluntary financial contributions in support of the work of UHS, and any such generosity will be publicly acknowledged.
  9. Corporate Member. This is for corporations and companies who have a desire to assist UHS in its work of serving Urhobo history and culture. Corporate Members will have the privilege of free advertisements of up to one-quarter page in UHS periodic publications. A Corporate Member shall pay a membership fee of N250,000 a year or one-time life membership fee of N1 million.

UHS Membership Benefits

i.        Members will be joining the league of patriots who are extending the study and research of Urhobo History and Culture to the grassroots.

ii.       Members have access to UHS’s books at the Headquarters library and a 25% discount on all UHS publications.

iii.      Members have opportunities to participate in UHS Quarterly Meetings as well as Annual General Meetings and Conferences where they can make suggestions regarding the realization of UHS mission, Serving Urhobo History and Culture.

iv.      Members in good financial standing (that is, those who have paid their annual membership dues as of December of the previous year) will receive UHS Quarterly Bulletins that will include news of the Society’s ongoing activities and Annual Journal of Urhobo History and Culture (upcoming).

v.       Members will have the opportunity to send articles for publication in UHS quarterly bulletins and UHS Journal of Urhobo History and Culture (upcoming).

vi.      Members in good financial standing will receive unique UHS Membership Cards that bear the insignia and authority of the Society.

vii.     Members have an opportunity to interact and share ideas with fellow Urhobo patriots.

viii.    Members have the privilege to nominate qualified persons for the various awards that the Society gives to worthy recipients at the venues of our Annual Conferences.

ix.      Members will have their names published in UHS membership list, UHS website and Annual reports.

x.       Members will be entitled to use the abbreviation “MUHS” (Member, Urhobo Historical Society) after their names if they wish.

xi.      Members who have made significant contributions to UHS and meet the applicable requirements can be nominated to Editorial & Management Committee, Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, Patron and Fellow of UHS.

xii.     Children of members will be eligible to participate in the annual get together for members children (upcoming).
